The Faculty of Law is one of the faculties of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. It dates back to the founding of Kharkiv Imperial University, the oldest university in Eastern Europe.
The university was founded by decree of Tsar Alexander I in 1804. Unlike other universities of the Russian Empire - Moscow, Kazan, St. Petersburg, which were created under the direct instructions of the state, Kharkiv University appeared thanks to the "sympathy and material support of the Kharkiv community."
The founding of Kharkiv University is rightly associated with the personality of Vasyl Nazarovych Karazin, the landowner of the village. Kruchyk, Slobid-Ukrainian province.
